"One Call does it all"

From 1978 to 1980, Kaufman Area Rural Transportation (KART) operated as Kaufman Committee on Aging providing aging transportation services for the elderly residents of Kaufman County.

In 1980, the State of Texas chartered Kaufman County Senior Citizens Services, Inc. (KCSCSI) as a private, non-profit corporation. In 1988, Kaufman Area Rural Transportation came to life. KART formed to provide demand response public transportation for all transit dependent residents of Kaufman County.

In November 2001, KART became a Political Subdivision by the State of Texas.

A means of transportation is important for citizens of all ages as well as our physically challenged population. KART travels over 300,000 miles and provides over 40,000 trips annually.

Transportation is a vital service for the area, providing a way to access jobs, medical facilities, day-to-day errands, shopping, visiting and to our Senior Citizen Centers. On average, 45% of KART’s rides are transporting residents to and from their job.

KART has recently signed contracts with both Trapeze Software Group and Radio Satellite Integrators, Inc. to bring the latest technology available to its property.

Not only will the property be paperless, the Dispatcher will be able to access any vehicle by the touch of a button. Each vehicle will be equipped with the V-Track System from RSI along with a Mobile Data Terminal so that rosters can be transmitted via a satellite.

With this new technology, KART will become even more efficient in time and cost, and it will allow an increase in passenger trips.
